Nissan reports April 2022 sales in China

PV and LCV businesses hit again by worsening raw material shortages and pandemic

BEIJING (May 9, 2022) – Nissan’s passenger vehicle (PV) and light commercial vehicle (LCV) sales in China reached 368,125 vehicles in the first four months of the year, a 23.4%  decline year on year, because of worsening external headwinds, including industry-wide shortages and lockdowns across key regions and cities, as ongoing COVID disruptions continued. 

Sales by the PV and LCV businesses declined 46% to 69,262 units in April. Sales by the passenger vehicle business (Nissan, Venucia and INFINITI brands) in April reached 58,084 units, while the light commercial vehicle business of Dongfeng Automobile Co., Ltd. (DFAC)  and Zhengzhou Nissan (ZNA) achieved 11,178 units sold.

Nissan reports retail sales for PV and wholesale sales for LCV

“We witnessed a continued impact on vehicle production and sales in April due to ongoing semiconductor shortages,supply chain disruptions,and lockdown in key regions and cities from the spread of COVID-19,” said Shohei Yamazaki, senior vice president of Nissan,chairman of the Management Committee for China, and president of Dongfeng Motor Ltd.(DFL).

He said the company has taken the safety of its customers,partners and employees as the first priority.“Despite all these challenges,all of our employees have dedicated their energy and skills to helping fight the COVID-19 pandemic in various ways–from delivering food and supplies to employees and partners in locked down areas,to providing pandemic prevention measures at dealerships,to making our best efforts to recover production throughout the value chain as well as sales through integrated online and offline efforts,”he added. He said the company is on track to introduce the much-anticipated EV crossover–Nissan Ariya-this year following the kick-off of the preliminary order in April.

   ?    The sales volume of Dongfeng Nissan (including Nissan, Venucia and INFINITI brands) in April reached 58,084 units. The sales volume of the Nissan brand reached 53,158 units, and the Venucia brand sold 4,455 vehicles. Dongfeng Nissan sold 300,363* vehicles from January to April. The sales volume of Venucia brand kept growing in the past four months, with an increase of 32.7% year-on-year. Sales of Venucia EVs increased by 65.9% year-on-year in April.

   ?    Nissan’s LCV sales in China stood at 11,178 vehicles in April . DFAC’s April sales reached 7,044 vehicles while Zhengzhou Nissan’s April sales stood at 4,134 vehicles.

   ?    Dongfeng Nissan’s performance in April was driven by its sedan and SUV series across the Nissan, Venucia, and INIFINITI brands.

        ?  For Nissan Sedans, Altima sold 9,722 units in April and 50,408 units year to date, an increase of 5% year on year; the SYLPHY series sold 26,122 in April .

        ?  For Nissan SUVs (including Murano,X-trail,Qashqai, Kicks and Terra), total sales reached 13,444 units in April including 8,654 Qashqai units.

        ?  Venucia’s April sales were boosted mainly by the Venucia V-online (1,904 vehicles), D60 series (1,949 vehicles). Venucia D60EV sold 1,319 units, a 78% increase year on year.

        ?   INFINITI’s April sales were driven mainly by the QX50, Q50L and all-new QX60.

   ?    DFAC’s performance from January to April was driven mainly by its light-duty truck series with accumulated sales of 41,880 vehicles, including Captain (2,726 vehicles), Duolika (16,224),Furuika(6,582),Tuyi (3,948) and Xiaobawang (8,440), etc. NEV sales achieved 5,156 vehicles in the first four months.

   ?    Zhengzhou Nissan’s April sales continued to be driven by its pickup and SUV businesses, including Nissan Navara (784 vehicles) and Dongfeng Rich-brand pickup series (3,281).
